Electronic Engineering was founded in 1946 as a service organization for the two-way radio industry in Iowa, which mainly consisted of cab companies, utility companies and police and fire departments. The company has 11 locations in Iowa and Nebraska. In 1953, it began servicing and installing air-conditioners in central Iowa and later became a home appliance service center and an authorized warranty repair center for washers and dryers. In the 1960s, the company expanded to offer tone paging then added the fully automated paging terminal. The company has since become known as 'The Beeper People.' During the early 1970s, Electronic Engineering became an authorized Motorola Radius dealer and in the 1980s, a full-line Motorola dealer. In 1986, it introduced cellular phone technology to Des Moines. The Internet Gateway system was introduced in the early 1990s, allowing its customers to send word message pages via the World Wide Web on its products.
