One of the first ultra high frequency television stations in the Midwest, WSBT-TV went on the air in December 1952. The station was also one of the first in the region to present a closed-circuit telecast of sporting events, transmit color picture, establish news bureaus and produce morning and noon telecasts of news programs. WSBT-TV is a Columbia Broadcasting affiliate and serves northern Indiana and southwest Michigan. It is one of several television properties owned by Schurz Communications. WSBT-TV s location in South Bend is also home to an amplitude modulation radio station, WSBT, which broadcasts on 930 AM. It offers news talk and sports talk programming. Based in South Bend, Ind., Schurz is a diversified and privately owned communication company with newspaper, television and radio properties.
