Voss Clark started in 1951 as a small shear house on in downtown Detroit. Part of an industrial group, Voss Clark has seen significant growth in its business over the past 30 years, going from 87,000 tons processed in 1967 to more than 2.4 million tons processed this year. This was accomplished through the acquisition of property and the building of two facilities, Lantz in Detroit and Clark near Louisville, Ky. The company, which was now located in Taylor, Mich., shifted its focus from steel sales to toll processing. This decision allowed Voss Clark to focus on servicing the needs of its processing customers by eliminating competition for end user steel sales. Also, the company was able to channel its financial assets, invested in steel inventory and receivables, towards plant equipment and customer service. This decision set the stage for its growth as a toll processor.
