Stant Manufacturing was founded in 1898. Following World War I, the company began manufacturing auto parts, including the two-piece radiator cap. By the 1930s, it was producing hood ornaments, such as the flying quail ornament for the first Ford Model A and ornamental caps for various Lincoln, Packard, Pierce-Arrow and Cadillac models. Stant Manufacturing has developed several products through the years, such as the LEV-R-VENT safety radiator pressure cap in 1962, the SWIV-EL radiator cap in 1985, and the PRE-VENT pressure-relieving fuel cap in 1987. It manufactures automotive fuel, radiator and oil filler caps, on-board refueling vapor recovery valves, and pressure, vacuum and fuel system testers. Tomkins acquired Stant Manufacturing in 1997. The Tomkins Industrial and Automotive group manufactures automotive parts, including products from Gates, Ideal, Plews/Edelmann, Schrader-Bridgeport, Standard-Thomson, Stackpole, Stant, Trico and Tridon. The company s products are sold in the U.S. to automotive parts distributors and original equipment manufacturers.
