History
Martin Insurance was founded in 1905 by local entrepreneur, J. Gilbert Martin. J. Gilbert launched his insurance career at the age of 21, and remained an agent until the late 1970's. J. Gilbert's son, Robert G. Martin (Bob), entered the agency in 1943. Bob left the agency briefly to serve in WW II and returned in 1946. Bob's son, R. Gregory Martin (Greg), began his insurance career in 1970 after serving with the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam. Greg's son, Matthew Gregory Martin (Matt), the fourth generation of the family, joined the agency in 1992. Bob, Greg and Matt continue to work in the agency alongside many other dedicated insurance professionals. The agency has been located in various buildings since 1905, but always in downtown Scottsburg. In 1925, J. Gilbert moved the agency to the west side of the square at 64 South Main. Mr. Bruce Ritter, owner of Ritter's Shoe Store, gifted the front door and glass panels from that location to Martin Insurance Agency. Those same gl
