and Future Leaders Fair HistoryThe LaPorte County Agricultural Association sponsored the first LaPorte County Fair in 1845. As we were essentially an agricultural society in the early days, special emphasis was in promoting quality farm products. Later, traditional domestic projects were added such as food preparation, canning, sewing, craft, fine arts and painting.Events such as horse racing, stage shows and carnival attractions were later added. The County Fair served as an educational and social event for the citizens of LaPorte County that they looked forward to each year.In the early 1900's, 4-H youth became involved and expanded rapidly when in 1918 a Boy's and Girl's Club building was erected. The 4-H program is now the main educational program, even though the adult agricultural and domestic programs continue to be an important part of the fair. It is truly a family event with many hundreds of volunteers. Each year the fair is complimented with large exhibiting commercial, industrial, and consumer products. A recent addition to the grounds has been Pioneer Land. It has been very popular with the public and school children who visit it during the school year. The LaPorte County Agricultural Association is truly a popular volunteer educational and service organization serving the rural and urban citizens of LaPorte County.Welcome to the new and improved site for the great LaPorte County Fair - Indiana's Oldest County Fair.Whether you are a vendor, exhibitor, local businessperson, or someone looking for a place to host your next event, we can help!
