The Columbus Police Department works to promote safe streets and neighborhoods for the citizens of Columbus, Ind. It maintains public relations, uniform, detective, narcotics, training, records, parking and animal control divisions. The Columbus Police Department has a bomb squad, S.W.A.T. team, bike patrol, honor guard and cultural liaison office. The department s staff includes negotiators, field training officers, accident investigators and uniformed patrol officers. It responds to issues related to domestic violence, suspicious persons, prowlers, burglary alarms, fights, traffic accidents, weather-related emergencies and numerous other calls for assistance. The Columbus Police Department also handles cases involving weapons, high-speed pursuits and violent criminals. The department sponsors the Citizen s Police Academy, D.A.R.E., Police Athletic and Activity League and Police Youth Academy.
