History
At the ages of 14 and 16 we went to our parents stating we wanted to start our own business. With mom and dad's support we purchased our first food truck that served shaved ice and hot dogs on the beach. At the end of the year we were able to sell that truck and buy a 24' trailer that, with the help of our dad, we built into a commercial kitchen on wheels. This trailer became known as Da Portable Rican. We asked our family to come aboard and help us to pass on Grandma's recipes of traditional Puerto Rican food to serve to the people of NW Indiana. The trailer can be found at the Porter and Lake County fairs in Indiana as well as other events in the area. Now, 7yrs later, we are ready to open our first brick and mortar restaurant on September 22, 2017 in Portage, In. We are very proud of our culture and are humbled by the support and following we have garnered. We just wanted to share our culture and be able to keep traditions alive.
