Stephen G. Brueggemann, M.D.Dr. Stephen G. Brueggemann is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist with more than 25 years of experience, including his practice at Columbus Eye Center in Columbus, Indiana, since 1989. He is a member of the medical staff at Columbus Regional Hospital. He specializes in cataract surgery, medical and surgical care of glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular degeration, functional eyelid surgery and comprehensive eye care.Dr. Brueggemann graduated with his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1985 and completed his internship at Methodist Hospital in 1986. He completed his residency at the Department of Ophthalmology, Indiana University Medical Center in 1989. During his residency, he participated in the selection process of the first phacoemulsification machine used in the residency program for modern cataract surgery. He was the first resident to perform the capsulorrhexis procedure during phacoemulsification, an integral component in maintaining adequate centration of the intraocular lens placed during cataract surgery.He was appointed to the medical staff at Columbus Regional Hospital in 1989 and has been a member of the Surgical Case review committee and Pharmacy and Therapeutics committees in the past. As a member of the department of surgery, he actively participates in maintaining the high quality of medical care delivered to patients undergoing eye surgery at Columbus Regional Hospital.In addition to his training and practice experience, Dr. Brueggemann is a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and has been a member of several professional organizations, including: the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Indiana Academy of Ophthalmology, Indiana State Medical Association, Indianapolis Ophthalmological Society, American Medical Association and the Bartholomew/Brown County Medical Society.
