The Bloomington Police Department is a full-service police agency that provides police protection to a city of approximately 75,000 residents and a land area of approximately 20 square miles. The department employs more than 100 full-time persons. The Bloomington Police Department is divided into divisions and units. These consists of bicycle patrol, central dispatch center, critical incident response team, detective division, dive team, evidence and property division, honor guard, patrol division, records division and school liaison. The evidence and property division processes area and crime scenes for items of evidence to include fingerprints, DNA, shoeprints and other forms of trace evidence. The detective division investigates crimes, such as homicides and suspicious deaths, child molesting and sexual assaults, complex frauds and pattern armed robberies and burglaries. The Bloomington Police Department is headquartered in Bloomington, Ind.
