Zion Lutheran is one of the oldest established churches in Hinsdale, officially forming its congregation in 1888. Back in the day, church services were held only on Sundays, but not anymore. Starting in September, Zion will launch a traditional Missouri Synod service on Saturdays at 4pm, on the second Saturday of each month. Services will also be held on Sundays at 9am.
Fall will be a busy time for the church as members participate in the annual CropWalk. A "Stop & Chat" evening is also planned at Fuller's Hardware in September, where a percentage of all purchases that night will go to Zion. An open house is also scheduled at the church on November 26, allowing area residents to drop by for music, food and fellowship.
Another big year is starting soon at Zion's Early Childhood Education Center. The preschool through kindergarten curriculum offers a wide variety of programs to stimulate young minds. The Reggio-based format of teaching inspires the youngsters to explore subjects that they are passionate about. Zion's teachers follow the Lutheran theology of teaching, and many have advanced degrees. Preschool classes are for children ages two through six.
