WZND is a radio station that is owned and operated by Illinois State University. The station is operated by students of the university throughout the fall and spring semesters. Broadcasting helps to fulfill course credits necessary for graduation with a degree in mass communication. The major requires courses such as Introduction to Communication Theory, Introduction to Mass Communication, Media Writing and Presentation, Mass Communication: Cultural Criticism and Problems, Communication Research Methods, Mass Communication: Theory and Effects, Regulation of Communication Industry and Ethical Problems in Mass Communication. WZND is then used to supplement the core studies with hands-on experience in radio broadcasting. The station s programming includes music, local and national news broadcasts and sports coverage. WZND is located in Normal, Ill.
