The Vermilion County Sheriff's Department works towards maintenance of social order and peace, as well as provides law enforcement services. It maintains a criminal investigation division that conducts 24-hour surveillance, retrieves evidence, interviews witnesses and suspects of a crime. The department also conducts services for extradition of wanted criminals from outside the state of Illinois. The Vermilion County Sheriff's Department operates a Special Operations Group (SOG) and a search and rescue team. It organizes a variety of community outreach and safety programs. In addition, the department provides various online crime statistics and crime reporting applications. The Vermilion County Sheriff's Department supports the Drug Abuse and Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program.
