History
North Kenwood/Oakland is one of the University of Chicago Charter School's four public school campuses. The University of Chicago Charter School was founded in 1998, when the University established the North Kenwood/Oakland campus. Donoghue was opened in 2005, followed by Woodlawn in 2006, and Carter G. Woodson in 2008.

The University of Chicago Charter School consists of four public school campuses that share a single overarching mission: to prepare students for success in four-year colleges. Together, the four campuses of the University of Chicago Charter School offer families a pathway to college for their children that begins with prekindergarten and continues through high school.
