The Romeoville location is the Chicago-area office for the National Weather Service, serving countries including Will, Grundy, DuPage, Cook, Lake and Kendall. The National Weather Service "provides weather, hydrologic and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, its territories, adjacent waters and ocean areas, for the protection of life and property and the enhancement of the national economy." It provides the country's only official forecasts and warnings in case of severe weather events, including thunderstorms, tornadoes, winter weather, tsunamis and climate events. Small group tours of the Romeoville office are available for students in grades 4 and up, and can be scheduled during regular business hours on Monday through Friday.
