Established in 1991, the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission manages Lake County's floodplains and watersheds. The department also works to reduce flood damage and to protect and restore Lake County's natural drainage system. The commission has a green roof to help moderate the building's temperature as well as three rain gardens with wildflowers and deep-rooted native plants to soak up water runoff. The Commission is comprised of 12 members: six are municipal mayors or presidents and the remaining six are Lake County board members.
