The Statewide Independent Living Council of Illinois (SILC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting independent living services for individuals with disabilities in Illinois. SILC provides leadership, research, planning, and education to support the independence and full participation of persons with disabilities in society.
SILC's board of directors, consisting of 18 volunteers appointed by the Governor, represents diverse regions of the state and a wide range of disabilities. Committed to advocacy and planning, SILC collaborates with Centers for Independent Living (CILs), state agencies, and local organizations to increase awareness, improve services, and develop new CILs. Through public hearings, meetings, and educational efforts, SILC strives to ensure that individuals with disabilities have the resources and support necessary to live independently and participate fully in their communities.
