History
St. Sophia of Thrace was married and had six children. After sickness carried off Sophia's husband and all her children in succession, she sold her property and gave the proceeds to the poor and to widows. Within a period of twenty years, she adopted one hundred children, and because of this, she is called St Sophia the Mother of Orphans. At St. Sophia's Forgotten Felines, the homeless cats are our orphans that we have taken the responsibility of caring for. Our goal is to find permanent homes for them, and provide the best in temporary care during their time of transition.
Specialties
St. Sophia's Forgotten Felines is a non-profit foster-based cat rescue in Westmont, IL. Established in late 2010, St. Sophia's strives to be the best in temporary care for cats in transition. What does this mean? It means that the cats in our care aren't intended to stay in our care. Our hope is a forever home for every adoptable cat -- no more homeless cats! Our cats come from local high-volume/high-kill Animal Controls such as Chicago, DuPage, Aurora, Joliet, Herrin, Marion, Quincy, Jasper and others. We also work with local Trap-Neuter-Return organizations and take in the friendly cats and kittens that are not suitable to live in outdoor feral colony environments. St. Sophia evaluates each cat individually in order to determine what the best forever home would be using the ASPCA Felinality Behavioral Assessment Tool. Each cat is different in many ways, and St. Sophia's prides itself on being able to determine what's best for each cat on a one-on-one basis. The Board Members of St. Sophia's Forgotten Felines have over 15 years of service in feline welfare combined. They come from various backgrounds including marketing, publishing, business, web-design, librarianship, and more.
