Founded more than 100 years ago, St. Andrew Episcopal Church in Grayslake opened with 70 people and a reverend who traveled by horse and buggy to minister to people throughout Lake and McHenry Counties. In 1914, a new Ladies' Auxiliary organized and raised $1,000 to purchase the property at the corner of Park Avenue and Lake Street, where the church now stands. The cornerstone was laid on St. Andrew's Day, Nov. 30, 1927.
The building is the oldest structure in Grayslake that has been continuously used as a church. The congregation is small and personally connected. New members and visitors are welcomed. The church is home to Elijah's Mantle, a community organization that provides gently used children's clothing to families in need.
