At the South Suburban Humane Society, people can adopt a variety of different animals including cats, dogs, birds, rabbits and several other animals. Because the Humane Society is not federal or state funded, it is always appreciative of volunteer help and donations. The Humane Society also spays and neuters, along with offering free food for needy pets on the second Thursday of each month from 1pm to 4pm. In order to receive the latter, owners will need to show proof of financial hardship as outlined on the organization's website.
