History
South Loop Market opened in summer of 2009 by brothers, Jamil and Samir Kanan, who had been residents in the neighborhood since 2007. The concept of the market was born after the Kanan brothers grew frustrated with always having to drive to the big-box grocer, and having to wait in long lines just to pick up a handful of items. Convinced that many of their neighbors shared the same frustration, the Kanan brothers decided a local market was simply a necessity. Today there are 4 locations throughout the South Loop, each providing the local community the opportunity to purchase quality basic, essential, and specialty items in a convenient and welcoming environment.
