Shore Community Services for Retarded Citizens (SHORE) was founded in 1951 when Lois Lloyd began a service in her home to provide support for mentally disabled children of the North Shore, including her own child.
This informal service went on to receive funding and become the first school for moderate and severely mentally disabled children in Illinois.
Now, SHORE provides for the needs of over 400 such individuals. SHORE provices housing, training and an education in three different north shore suburbs.
