Sangamon County Department of Public Health, located in Springfield, Ill., provides personal and environmental health services. It operates divisions of environmental and personal health that provide various programs for the protection of environment and assistance for the prevention of various diseases. The department issues permits for food service establishments and conducts inspections, and offers certified courses for food service. It also works in partnership with the Illinois Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The department additionally issues permits for private sewage disposal installation to contractors, and for construction and deepening of water wells. Its division of personal health offers various programs and services for the prevention of communicable diseases, blood pressure screening, immunizations, crisis intervention, and tuberculosis testing. Sangamon County Department of Public Health has a staff of trained nurses and social workers, and provides early intervention programs for the identification and providing assistance to children suffering from development disabilities.
