The R.R. Donnelley Printing Plant, also known as the Calumet Plant or Lakeside Plant, was originally built between 1912 and 1929 to house the operations of the RR Donnelley printing company. After its closure in 1993, the building was retrofitted and is now owned by Digital Realty Trust, operating as a carrier hotel and data center.
Designed by Howard Van Doren Shaw, the building features a fireproof design with poured reinforced concrete columns and an open-shell concrete floor. With major tenants including the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and Equinix, the Lakeside Technology Center stands as the first and largest planned carrier hotel in the United States.
