The Riverside Fire Department works to provide fire protection, emergency medical and rescue services. The department operates several fire stations, as well as maintains a fleet of fire engines, trucks, ambulances and support vehicles. Founded in 1898, it is responsible for providing fire suppression and prevention, public education and emergency related services. The Riverside Fire Department is governed by the Village of Riverside in Illinois, which has a population of more than 8,890 residents. The village has a public works department that is responsible for the maintenance of infrastructure buildings, roads, utilities, and parklands and parkways. It also operates building and police departments.
