History
Founded in 1994 by Michael Colucci, the Actors Workshop Theatre was renamed Redtwist Theatre in 2008. Originally, the company was itinerant, doing roughly one play per year, until moving into its current storefront home in Edgewater in 2002, at which time Jan Ellen Graves became Michael's producing partner and wife. Over the years, Redtwist has discovered creative ways to stage quality productions in a small, narrow space (800 sq ft, 30-49 seats). Redtwist has produced over 50 main season plays at its Bryn Mawr location, some as raw and edgy as the Chicago premiere of Reverb (Jeff Recommended), as timely as the world premiere of The Beautiful Dark (recommended for consideration for the American Theatre Critics Association's annual ATCA/Steinberg New Play Award), and as timeless as Clybourne Park (Jeff Recommended).
