The Division of Water Pollution Control is a public agency that develops and implements a variety of programs to monitor water quality throughout the city of Springfield in Illinois. It identifies the sources of water pollution from municipal, industrial and commercial discharges. The division is a part of the Bureau of Water, which is responsible for watershed management and the maintenance of water quality standards. The Division of Water Pollution Control also operates the Division of Public Water Supply, which is mandated by the Illinois Environmental Protection Act to protect the public from disease and assure adequate supply of drinking water.
