Pioneer Woods is located a half-mile east of the 107th Street and 104th Avenue intersection, on 107th street. These woods have a bit more open space which make it perfect for large picnics. Two groves can accommodate up to 400 guests each but only one of the groves has a shelter. Smaller picnic benches are scattered throughout and there are a number of Port-a-Potties.
If you take the winding road to the end of the woods you can find a perfect staging area for the Palos Trail System. The Trail System is a combination of gravel and unpaved trails that can be used for mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, jogging and even cross country skiing. The trails are marked by different colors and some are much more challenging than others.
