History
Perman Wine Selections was started in 2007 in a space that formerly housed Bennett Wine Studio. Craig Perman started in the wine business in 1999 in Portland, Oregon. With a mixture of restaurant and retail experience, he started Perman Wine as a way for wine enthusiasts to find a curated selection of wine by someone, in a sense, acting as their very own personal wine buyer. Chicago is a town full of big-box retailers, where the wine buyer is rarely around to service the customer. In such a high information business, Craig felt it was important that there be a store that focused on the best of the best from around the world, and then be there personally to talk to the customer. Since its opening, in 2013 Craig hired Shebnem Ince, the sommelier and wine director of The Gage and Henri Restaurants in Chicago. Shebnem had been tabbed by Food & Wine Magazine as one of the nation's top sommeliers in 2011. This level of knowledge and service made her a perfect fit for Perman Wine.
