Originally created to assist returning World War II veterans, the Oak Park Housing Authority now works to assist local low-income residents in finding affordable and quality housing. Using the federally funded Housing Choice Voucher program, the Oak Park Housing Authority provides rent subsidies to the approximately 450 participants in the program. The company's main principle is a commitment to maintaining a diverse community.
In addition to this, the Oak Park Housing Authority owns three apartment buildings with its affiliated organization, the Oak Park Residence Corporation, specifically to assist the low-income disabled and elderly population in the village. These developments total nearly 300 units.
