Located in a real estate building off Maple Street/Route 30, The New Lenox Area Historical Society. The society works with other organizations in New Lenox to educate longtime community members and those new to the village about the area's history.
The society operates the most famous historical landmark in New Lenox, the Schmuhl School, a one-room schoolhouse. One of the first schools in New Lenox, the original building burned to the ground in 1932, but was rebuilt shortly afterward. Today, this brick building is open for viewing by appointment only.
