Michael Chioffe, MD is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon who specializes in the treatment of spinal disorders such as disc herniations, spinal stenosis, fractures, instability (slipped discs), and degeneration (arthritis). He received his undergraduate degree in chemistry and microbiology & cell science from the University of Florida in Gainesville and then earned a medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at University of Chicago Hospitals followed by a fellowship in spine surgery at Northwestern University. His practice focuses on adult complex spine surgery, minimally invasive surgery, revision spine surgery, and cervical spine surgery, including cervical disc replacement. Dr. Chioffe engages in a discussion with each patient to explore conservative treatment options prior to pursuing surgery. His goal for each patient is to reduce their pain and discomfort while increasing their activities and overall quality of life. Expertly trained in the use of state-of-the-art computer navigation tools, he is able to minimize risks and complications during surgery and has been recruited as a consultant for several technology companies to educate surgeons, spine fellows, and resident physicians on the latest innovative spine surgery techniques and approaches. Additionally, he has co-authored research papers for leading spine surgery publications. In his spare time, Dr. Chioffe enjoys traveling, basketball, art, and music.
