History
Metropolitan Farms has converted an old concrete parking lot into a fertile, commercial scale farm. They use an advanced growing system called aquaponics in a controlled environment state of the art greenhouse for year round local food production.
Specialties
Metropolitan Farms is a commercial aquaponics farm offering tours of our 10,000 square foot greenhouse which was formerly a dairy packaging plant. During tours, visitors learn about aquaponics and sustainable urban closed-loop food production, hear the founder recount his journey building the farm, and even sample some of the extensive crop on display. Our warm greenhouse is open year round and produces locally sourced tilapia, salad greens, and artisanal culinary herbs. We showcase our products while educating visitors about sustainable urban aquaponic farming practices, local markets, composting, water recycling, science and biology, urban agriculture, and more.
