Founded in 1957, The Mental Health Association of Greater Chicago (MHAGC) is an independent, nonprofit volunteer association that is located in Chicago. The organization serves as an advocate for the social and emotional health of children and families. It also provides practical tools and educational training for the identification, prevention and referral of mental illness. The Mental Health Association of Greater Chicago s mental health awareness program includes education on various mental health conditions, including suicide, depression, self-injurious behavior, anxiety and eating disorders. The organization offers classes for agency personnel, law enforcement officers, teachers, counselors, parents, staff and students. As a member of the Illinois Children s Mental Health Partnership, it advocates for social and emotional skill building in schools and clinics.
