The Macoupin County Public Health Department is a local county government service supported through federal, state and county taxes. Established in 1983, the department is governed by a health board. It preserves, protects and promotes the health of the residents of Macoupin County and offers a variety of health care services. The department organizes immunization clinics and offers child lead prevention, smoking cessation and school programs. It also offers diabetes education, health screenings, mammograms, X-rays and pharmacy assistance services. The department offers a variety of health screening and testing programs, including hypertension and cholesterol screenings, pregnancy and hemoccult tests. The Macoupin County Public Health Department is based in Carlinville, Ill., with other offices in Girard, Gillespie and Litchfield, Ill.
