Founded in 1867, Lutheran Social Services of Illinois is a statewide, nonprofit social service agency of the three Illinois synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The first social ministries to which Lutheran Social Services traces its roots are primarily homes for orphaned children and aging adults. The organization s other services include counseling, mental health programs, substance abuse treatment, residential treatment for children and adolescents, early childhood education and child care services, foster care and adoption, housing and services for older adults. The organization also serves individuals with disabilities, provides nursing care and designs programs for prisoners and their families.
