Our family business history is an immigrant story that is representative of a particular area of our American culture. Michael Favia Sr. was born near Bari, Italy. A sub-chief electrician in the Italian Navy, he was discharged in 1957 after he met and married Stella Mariano while on leave in the United Stat...es. He found his first job at a lamp factory where he worked for the first two years. Young and ambitious, he meanwhile managed to get authorization from the electrical union to work as a journeyman electrician. In 1966, he received his license to work as a self-employed electrician. He immediately started Favia Electric Company, a union shop electrical contracting company.
