Leaf River Telephone Company celebrated its 100th anniversary of telephone service in 2003. Leaf River Egan Mutual Telephone Company was founded in 1903. It was located on Main St. downtown Leaf River. Charles E. Robinson bought the company in 1954 and changed the name to Leaf River Valley Telephone Company. It had roughly 200-300 subscribers mostly on rural party lines. In 1974-75 an underground system was constructed and converted to one party line service. In 1984 the company was renamed and dropped the Valley in the name as well as started using the current logo. In 1990 the company put in a new digital switching system and has been adding to it ever since. Customers now have 911, long distance service choices, custom calling features and internet.
