KOMET was founded in 1918 when Robert Breuing took over a machine tool factory in Fellbach, Germany. The firm opened a distribution company and manufacturing joint venture in the United States in 1982. In 1991, KOMET opened a new manufacturing plant in Chicago. The company manufactures and distributes cutting tools for use throughout the metal cutting industry. KOMET of America offers a selection of standard cutting tools for drilling, boring, reaming, tapping, turning and thread milling. The company serves primarily the automotive and aerospace industries. Robert Breuing died in 1971 and in his will set up a charitable foundation into which his share of the company was transferred.
