“It’s gratifying to see someone benefit from our care, to return from injury to the things they enjoy in life.” Dr. Kevin Chen is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand, wrist and upper extremity surgery of the shoulder and elbow. He completed his fellowship training at a major trauma center in Milwaukee and offers a full range of care for both common and complex conditions. He treats arthritic and chronic conditions as well as rotator cuff tears, shoulder and elbow instability, tennis and golfers elbow, repetitive motion injuries including carpal tunnel syndrome and sports injuries. Dr. Chen is among a small percentage of surgeons trained in complex elbow replacement surgery, a technique that has improved dramatically in recent years. He offers surgical solutions for older rotator cuff injuries which can be difficult to treat. Using minimally invasive arthroscopy to treat many problems without major surgery, he believes surgery is a last resort. He brings a full range of resources to each patient’s care when appropriate, including therapists, pain management specialists and others. Dr. Chen is currently involved in research exploring the use of 3D models to improve surgical planning for old fractures that have not healed in the correct position. When not with patients, Dr. Chen stays active and likes to swim, hike, play tennis and compete in ultimate frisbee.
