Byron Forest Preserve District, formed in 1980, provides a wide range of educational, preservation and recreational opportunities to residents of Illinois. The recreational activities organized by the district include ice fishing, sledding, cultural dances, social programs and shows. The amenities offered by the district include Jarrett Prairie Center, J. Weiskopf Observatory, Prairie View Golf Club, Heritage Farm Museum, the Stone Quarry Park Recreation Park and a restored dolomite prairie land. It also operates a preschool that offers education to students in grades kindergarten through 12 and provides various indoor and outdoor learning activities. Byron Forest Preserve District is spread over an area of more than 900 acres located in Byron, Ill.
