Isle a la Cache is a 95-acre preserve on an island on the Des Plaines River. The site hosts the Isle a la Cache fur trade museum and provides a 0.32-mile trail connection to the 10.81-mile, crushed limestone/paved Centennial Trail/I&M Canal Trail. The preserve is an ideal lunch spot and offers visitors the opportunity to canoe and fish the Des Plaines River.
The Isle a la Cache Museum is an educational institution that chronicles the historical significance of the area in which it is located. Visitors learn of the island as it was over 250 years ago, when it served as a cache site for French explorers and was a hub of activity for fur traders.
