The Illinois State Board of Investment was created in 1969. The State Treasurer, the chairman of the Illinois Public Employees Pension Laws Commission and the chairmen of the retirement systems for which the board administered investments served as ex officio members. Responsibilities of the board include managing, investing and reinvesting the assets of the pension funds under its authority. The Illinois State Board of Investment is one of the three largest statewide public pension funds.
