Through a little luck at the track and a sister who was an heiress to an oil fortune, "Colonel" Edward Baker used some of the interest on his inheritance and winnings to build a gloriously elegant hotel. Baker spared no expense when it came to the luxurious rooms filled with Egyptian linens and indoor plumbing. The hotel's opening was the highlight of St. Charles in 1928 and still stands as a testament to the history of our city.
Hotel Baker boasts two restaurants and a martini bar. The hotel has banquet rooms, penthouse and spa suites, as well as a private trolley car to take guests around town.
