The Hopkins Park Pool is merely one of the entities offered by the DeKalb, Ill. Park District. It is named in honor of Judge Hopkins, who donated its 32-acre tract of land, which became the crown jewel of the park system. The DeKalb Park System was born in 1935. Its first significant improvement project was the community swimming pool in Hopkins Park. As the DeKalb community grew, so did its park district. By 1980, the district had rebuilt the swimming pool and made numerous changes to Hopkins Park. Facility improvements of the 1990's included creation of the Hopkins Park Community Center in 1989, which was a 10,000 square foot social and community center addition to the Hopkins Swimming Pool Facility. Today, the Hopkins Park Pool bolsters an Olympic size pool with three waterslides, a wading pool and a sun deck.
