Swedish immigrants brought the Evangelical Covenant Church to Hinsdale in 1892. For nearly 120 years, church members have been actively serving the surrounding communities, primarily with mission work. Covenant encourages its members, young and old, to get involved and help those who cannot help themselves. An older men's group within the church travels to Chicago once a month to help sort surplus medical supplies for shipment to the Congo. Several members of the youth program have traveled to New Orleans to paint school buildings and tutor children. Members also volunteer their time at Chicago's Food Depository, where they help make lunches for hungry children.
Covenant also runs a well-established weekday pre-school in Hinsdale. The school has 96 children enrolled, ages three through six.
