History
After dancing 12 years under Kumu Hula Michael Pili Pang's tutelage in Halau Hula Ka No'eau in Waimea on the Big Island of Hawaii, June Kaililani Tanoue graduated as an 'Olapa (Dancer) in 1994, an 'Olapa/Ho'opa'a (Keeper of the Chants) in 1996 and a Kumu Hula (Master Teacher of the Hula), in June 2000. She began teaching hula classes in 2003 In New York City and Chicago. She opened Halau i Ka Pono - The Hula School of Chicago in 2009. The hula school is a non-denominational project of the Zen Life & Meditation Center - Chicago.
