Great Clips may be a national salon chain, but this franchise, independently owned by Gopal Gehi, gives its customers a friendly, personal feel. Gehi notes that he has nine stylists with a combined 130 years of experience. A few, he says, have been styling hair for at least 20 years. At a corner of Pickwick Plaza on Roosevelt Road, Great Clips accepts walk-ins from kids to seniors. In fact, kids 10 and younger and seniors 65 and older receive a discount, with haircuts for $10 instead of the standard $12. A shampoo is an extra $3.
Included in each haircut or style is a brief, free consultation with each stylist. And though the haircuts may be inexpensive, the surroundings don't feel cheap. The store features sleek, multicolored partitions and comfortable salon chairs. In addition to haircuts, Great Clips also offers formal styling, beard trims, perms and conditioning treatments. "We have a great crew," adds Gehi, whose daughter, Roshni, often serves as the receptionist. "And we're always having fun."
