The Illinois State Board of Education is responsible for developing and administering tests to enhance the performance of students and schools. Its career and technical education division assists with the development of occupational skills in the areas of agricultural education, health science technology, and family and consumer sciences. The agency oversees the accounting, claims, vouchering and expenditure reporting of the state and federal grant funds for school districts and other service providers. The Illinois State Board of Education operates an external assurance division that has expertise in compliance audit and monitoring services. The agency offers language support services for students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. In addition, it provides advanced placement, special education and after-school snack programs.
