Established in 1985, Equip for Equality is a private, nonprofit organization that was founded to implement the protection and advocacy system in Illinois. It provides a range of advocacy services that empower individuals. The organization works in partnerships with various community groups and public and private agencies to organize educational seminars for people with disabilities. Equip for Equality offers information on various ways to seek individual assistance with disability-related rights issues and legislation and public policies. It supports a public policy program that pursues research and advocacy through involvement in legislative and executive policy making processes. The organization also maintains an abuse investigation unit that investigates and monitors various facilities and programs, as well as issues alerts and recommendations to prevent future tragedies.
